SPX has breakout of trading band. US Index support zone has failed. My bet is on the wrong side this time. Exiting early next week. Prev profit returned.

If you're referring to a Santa Claus rally, I suggest you don't bet your hard earned money on it. If there's any, it's usually the last week of Dec, not the whole month of Dec.

Hi MON, I see your point. Many daily charts are showing a basing pattern signifying reversal, like the NOL which I posted. Some prices are like 2009 bottom prices as well. But STI is still pretty high. Difficult choice to make...

I will only take short term positions. If the upcoming retreat holds, I'll go long and add on long on dips. However, I will not hold long-term long for now. Keep stops tight I guess.

Hi indicator, it depends on the timeframe and duration of your trade or investment. If you're a medium term investor, buy when VIX is high means you're buying at value. Of course, look for confirmation of a new uptrend.

If you compare VIX and say STI index over the same timeframe, you can see area of 'I should have buy here' and 'I should have sold there' but you didn't due to market greed and fear. Hindsight is perfect. So use VIX as your friend to over your emotion.

This is especially true during volatile times (sideway). However, when the market directional bias is strong (like a very strong uptrend) don't short and be killed, instead, distribute your longs.
